The Espresso Martini That Hits All the Right Notes

There’s something special about the way music and coffee both carry energy—each one setting a tone, building emotion, and leaving a lasting impression. That’s the vibe I aim to capture in every espresso martini I make: bold like a bassline, smooth like a Sunday groove, and layered like a well-mixed track.

I’ve played a lot of sets, poured a lot of coffee, and tasted more than my fair share of cocktails. But this—my signature espresso martini—hits every time. It’s creamy without being heavy, bold without being bitter, and just sweet enough to keep the balance.

Whether you’re celebrating, vibing solo, or ending the night with something grown and smooth—this recipe was built for you.

Josh’s Signature Espresso Martini Recipe

Ingredients:

1 shot dark roast espresso (freshly brewed, cooled slightly)

1.5 oz Van Gogh Espresso Vodka

1 oz Patrón XO Cafe

0.5 oz Pinnacle Whipped Vodka

Optional: 0.5 oz dairy-free vanilla creamer or oat milk creamer for added creaminess

Ice

3 espresso beans (for garnish and tradition)

Instructions:

1. Brew your espresso strong and dark. Let it cool for 1-2 minutes so it doesn’t melt the ice too fast.

2. In a shaker, add a handful of ice, your espresso, vodkas, Patrón XO, and creamer (if using).

3. Shake it like you mean it—15 to 20 seconds. You’re not just mixing, you’re building that velvety foam.

4. Strain into a chilled martini glass.

5. Garnish with three espresso beans on top of the foam (more on that below).

Why the Foam Matters (And How to Get It Right)

That creamy foam layer on top? It’s not just for looks. It adds texture and elevates the whole drinking experience.

Tips for the perfect foam:

Use fresh espresso with good crema—don’t use pod shots or instant if you can avoid it.

Dry shake (without ice) for 5 seconds before adding ice if you want extra froth.

Shake with intention. You’re creating micro-bubbles, not just chilling the drink.

Strain through a fine mesh strainer if you want a super-smooth top.

Why Three Espresso Beans?

The tradition comes from Italy: three espresso beans symbolize health, wealth, and happiness. It’s more than just a garnish—it’s a good-luck wish served in every glass. So next time you sip, remember—it’s not just a drink, it’s a little blessing on the rim.

What to Pair It With

Think of this drink like a slow jam—it pairs best with something indulgent, rich, and smooth.

Dark chocolate desserts: lava cake, brownies, or truffles

Tiramisu: because coffee on coffee is always a win

Soft cheeses & salty snacks: goat cheese, brie, prosciutto, dark chocolate almonds

Brunch vibes: French toast, cinnamon rolls, or a light almond croissant

Closing Vibes

As a musician, I’ve always believed that the best creations come from a mix of precision and feel—just like a great song. This espresso martini is crafted the same way. Every sip hits like the drop in your favorite tune. Smooth. Bold. Memorable.
